THE MATRIX
FALL 2019 WOMENSWEAR TREND
Computer hackers, mysterious rebels, dark sunglasses and loads of leather and glossy vinyl dominated the silver screen in 1999’s epic slick Sci-Fi The Matrix. These season plenty of designers took the red pill and embraced their existence and the resistance. Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent opened with a subconscious ode to the look while Rick Owens took it the vampire route. Daniel Lee’s first outing at Bottega Veneta riffed off it in a masculine biker manner that actress Carrie Ann Moss’ character Trinity would have killed for. Either way, all roads led to plenty of black, leather, and a nice trip down the rabbit hole of a trend this season.
You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
